(121***) Umím, znám, vím

Ahoj!

A jakou neumíš?

🙂 Taky umím perfektně francouzsky a docela normálně anglicky. Umím taky trochu německy a rusky.

A taky, samozřejmě, znám svého partnera. No jo, už ho znám dlouho, už několik let.

Taky si to myslíš? A dnes velmi dobře znám Bretaň.

VÍM + when/where/whose/why/what time/to whom/how/…

Vaše Eliška 🙂

Dobrý večer, Eliško. Všechno je opravdu skvělé!

Ale našla jsem jednu chybu. Prosím Vás, opravte ji. “Vím, jaký dárek koupím mamince k narozenám”. Chybí tam “ni” ve slově “narozeninam”.

    S pozdravem
    Olga

    Dear Eliška,

Thank you very much for the text. I have a small question, though.

In the text, you use the verb “vzpomenout si”.

I was wondering what is the difference between vzpomenout SI and vzpomenout SI, if there is any.

Thank you very much in advance.
    Kind regards.

    Sorry! I mean:

I was wondering what is the difference between vzpomenout SI and vzpomenout SE, if there is any.

No worries, those SE and SI are pretty annoying 🙂
    1) they are just there without logic, those verbs have them and cant be used without and we have to learn them: dívat se, líbit se
    2) they can or doenst have to be there, if they are, they express reciprocity: povídat si (one to each other), seznámit se (one with each other)
    3) they can or doesnt have to be there, they express that I do something to myself: čtu si (I read to myself, not to other), dělám si kafe (for myself)
    🙂

    Dear Eliška,

Thank you very much for the explanation.

Yes, I think I’m starting to understand that I have to learn them by heart and that’s it. And sometimes that they have this reflexive idea, that one does something for him/herself.

I just thought that it could happen that the same verb has two versions, one with SI and the other with SE.

    Kind regards.

Well, there is this logic about reflexion. If you feel that its reflexive, you should use SI (dativ) or SE (accusative). There is a short text about them, here, too, if you want: https://www.ilearnczech.com/ja-se-v-tom-sise-nevyznam-aneb-reflexive-verbs-in-czech-1/

But I am actually working on new article about SI/SE because its pretty important in Czech, to use the correct word order. For native Czech it sounds weird when you dont use the 2nd position rule, whereas not using the correct case is not a big deal 🙂

Aha! Thank you very much, Eliška. I didn’t know about this webpage “ilearnczech”.

Yes, I’m getting used about this second position thing yet. Sometimes it complicates a bit when it appears a reflexive verb + past tense + TO, but I think I’m getting it right. It’s just a matter of practicing, I’d say.

    Thanks again!

    Kind regards.

Yes, exactly, just to hear it and say it 100x and then it comes naturally 🙂
You really are a hardworking student, keep going and keep asking questions 😀
    I love them!
    Krásný den, Eliška

I am slowczech founder and from my experience I know two things: beginners can understand words with time. And enjoyable input is vital for natural language acquisition. Many give up Czech due to old methods, irrelevant vocabulary or overwhelming grammar. Let’s change that and make learning Czech exciting and effective.
